Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques Louis Jadot 2009 (94+JG) (750ML)
90-92 WA 93 WS 92-95 BH 92-94 IWC
"This red is lavishly oaky, yet remains supple and packed with cherry and raspberry flavors. It's also elegant and vibrant, courtesy of the lively acidity. Firms up on the finish...93" WS Vol.8 No.15 04/12 " Here the ripe nose is not only the most complex among these Gevrey 1ers but also the most elegant as there is excellent breadth to the red berry liqueur and stone aromas. The delicious and mineralinflected medium weight flavors display ample verve and good mid-palate density that mostly buffers the firm but well-integrated tannic spine, all wrapped in a gorgeously persistent finish...92-95" BH 5/11 "Saturated medium red. Black cherry, violet and some caramel oak high tones on the nose. Sweet, dense and floral, with a rather strong oakiness in spite of the fact that this is aging in just 30% new barrels. Best today on the very broad, sweet back end, which features suave tannins and excellent length. From a second barrel: More espresso but less caramel on the nose. Juicy and imploded in the mouth, with lovely perfume to the tangy cherry and raspberry flavors. A dense, saline wine with terrific energy and length. I'd like to taste this side by side with the 2008 in a few years. My score is for the second sample. ..92-94" IWC 1/11 "The elegance of 2009 is very much in evidence in the Clos St. Jacques this year as well. The wine was raised in thirty percent new oak in this vintage, with another thirty percent one year-old barrels and the balance older wood. The nose is deep, classy and beautifully complex, as it jumps from the glass in a blend of black cherries, dark plums, coffee, a great base of soil, fresh herbs and a very discreet framing of wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and completely refined, with a sappy core of fruit, suave tannins, bright acids and superb length and grip on the flawless finish. Just a great young vintage of Jadot Clos St. Jacques. 2020-2070. 94+." John Gilman a View from the Cellar 1/11
