98 point 2002 Champagnes-Wine Advocate Is Out
On Saturday the Wine Advocate published on their homepage their annual Champagne reviews. This is now online only and the reviews conducted by Antonio Galloni are comprehensive and focus in on rounding out the last of the 2002 Vintage. In case you have not heard, 2002 is a monumental vintage for Champagne with the Wine Advocate awarding the 2002 vintage as a whole 95 points. Now practically all the 2002 Champagnes are released except for a few things like Krug and Mr. Galloni’s latest report covers practically everyone that released a 2002 this year. The results are some massive 98 point scores and a big surprise 97 point score. To say we are excited is an understatement. As we have been saying it for over a year now that the Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2002 (98WA) is a must have wine and that the Dom Ruinart 2002 is their greatest ever (97WA)!
With the new reviews out we quickly did a search on erobertparker.com for the highest rated 2002 Champagne of the vintage. Here is what the search reveals:
Today we are pleased to be able to offer you the Bollinger VV Franciaises, the Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, the Dom Ruinart and a tiny bit of Dom Perignon. (FYI the Dom Perignon Rose 2002 is set to be released in 2013 and the Jacques Selosse we do not have info on as of yet.)
By the way, as great as the Dom Perignon is in 2002, we have been telling you that the Dom Ruinart and the Taittinger Comtes for the past year plus really takes the prize in the 2002 vintage. For what it is worth Antonio Galloni agrees!
