James Sucklings Top 100 Italian Wines For 2012
First off, I have to state this...FINALLY a Top 100 list where the vintages reviewed are the vintages in the marketplace (Or soon to be released)
Today, James Suckling posted on his web site (jamessuckling.com) - "My Top Italian Wines In 2012". I am very proud and excited to announce that we have over 60% off all his favorites available for sale! In my 18 years here at Zachys I do not ever re-call having a TOP 100 selection where so much of the wine is still available for consumers (At least as of today it is).
Zachys is not your average run-of-the-mill store though. My passion and commitment to having one of the best selections of premium Italian wines day-in and day-out is truly paying off for our clients at times like this.
James and I have very similar tastes, so some of his favorites are mine as well.

Although we have a lot available now (8 of the Top 10 and 14 of the top 20) we are expecting a big run on these wines. My advice is the same as always...Don’t hesitate...Act Fast.
We look forward to hearing back from you.
All my best,
TASTING REPORT: MY TOP 100 ITALIAN WINES
December 9th, 2012
I tasted close to 3,000 Italian wines this year at my office in Italy as well as in cellars and tasting rooms throughout Italy. There were so many outstanding to great wines this year.
This is the first time I have selected my 100 best Italian wines. The list is included in my new annual publication Hong Kong Tatler James Suckling Great Wines of Italy Guide – a publication created with the Asian luxury magazine where I am wine editor. It should be soon available electronically. It’s already available in printed form in Hong Kong.
My list this year was a straightforward number crunch that sorted the wines I tasted by score out of a maximum of 100 points. The cut off point was 95 points. I had to select my personal favorites near the end of the list because there were too many 95-plus wines…The majority of my Top 100 comes from Tuscany – particularly the appellations of Brunello di Montalcino and Bolgheri. Brunello released wines from two great vintages this year: 2006 and 2007. Meanwhile, Bolgheri continued its string of excellent vintages with 2008 and 2009…Barolo was right behind with a few reds from Barbaresco as well. The 2008 vintage is an excellent one showing wines with wonderful aromatic qualities and harmony for Nebbiolo following the rich and fruity reds of 2007…Some great Amarones are included as well – mostly from 2008. The 2008 vintage produced rich and structured reds in the Veneto with beautiful balance. They are more reserved than the fruity 2007s…I also included a few reds from the volcanic vineyard area of Sicily – Etna. This is an area to watch. The 2010 vintage made fabulous wines…Next year I will be expanding coverage of Italian wines even more. And I am sure my Top 100 will be even more exciting...” jamessuckling.com
