Stepping out of the Shadows
The World-Class Wines of Pierre Henri Morel
A regular at Zachys over the last year, the wines of Pierre Henri Morel are loved by many but, unfortunately, unknown to even more. But we strongly believe that this is beginning to change. This gentleman is the right-hand to virtual royalty in the Rhone, Michel Chapoutier, and it is no coincidence that the wines are beautiful in their own right. Here is a list of vital statistics for the Morel-Chapoutier connection:
- Morel has worked regularly with Michel Chapoutier since 2000, and currently manages the vast day-to-day operations of Chapoutier's holdings.
- Morel began a new venture with Chapoutier in 2007, beginning with the purchase of a vineyard in the Pignan area of Chateauneuf du Pape, and began releasing wines from throughout the Southern Rhone under his own name
- Morel's wines are all vinified and aged in the Chapoutier facilities
After just a few years, Pierre Henri Morel's wines have earned a litany of awards and great press. Providing a healthy mix of "drink-now" values and "drink later" cellar treasures, Morel has impressed us and Rhone wine lovers in the short time that he has been producing. Needless to say, we're looking forward to great things from this on-the-rise Southern Rhone producer. Morel is stepping out of the shadows and into the spotlight; these wines are not only affordable, but they are absolutely world-class.
